Rotation Of The Digital Learning Specialists For The Mid Year

Hello Elementary Educators,

We are happy to share an update about the rotation of our digital learning specialists for the mid-year.  As of January 4th, Helen Kelley will be moving to the Little School, Chris Lindsay will be moving to the Hood School, and Sam Anthony will be moving to the Batchelder School.

In preparation for this move, during the week of Dec 21-23 our Digital Learning Specialists will be visiting each elementary school to learn more about each school and to meet the staff. Each will spend at least half a day at their new building and spend time going over the technology, network, building layout, schedules and meet some of the teachers. During the time they are meeting with another DLS, the classroom teachers and paras will cover the classes.

Each of our Digital Learning Specialists, Chris, Helen, and Sam, each bring a component of the digital learning experience to our students.  By the end of the year students will have had the opportunity to explore robotics, coding, digital citizenship, and using technology to enhance learning.

The schedule is as follows:
  • Monday December 21st:Sam Anthony will be at the Batchelder School.
Sam’s “Digital Citizenship” curriculum is centered on students understanding what it means to be a good “digital citizen” and how these skills translate into research skills.
  • Tuesday December 22nd:Helen Kelley will be at the Little School.
Helen’s “Digital Learning” curriculum enables students to “show” their learning with technology and enhances their ability to communicate with digital tools. This curriculum provides an opportunity to tie in Common Core learning expectations with technology integration.
  • Wednesday December 23rd:Chris Lindsay will be at the Hood School
Chris’s “Robotics & Programming” curriculum introduces projects which integrate robotics and programming skills with classroom content using tools such as Scratch and Code.org resources.

Each curriculum encourages a collaboration between the classroom teacher and Digital Learning Specialist for an integrated experience for students. This includes activities that improve students typing skills and student fluency with technology, to create multimedia projects and enhance student learning.

We understand that great relationships have been developed and it will be difficult to say goodbye mid-year but we are confident that by the end of this year great relationships will have developed with all three of our digital learning specialists. The plan is to move everyone once again in the spring to allow all teachers and students to experience all that our three digital learning specialists have to offer.

Thank you
Dan
